prefer, Audio books or Reading books. I love both, I read through the day but on winter nights I love to get tucked up in my duvet and listen to a good audio story, I don't mind telling you I've scared my self half to death sometimes, and spent the night jumping at every sound. I never learn.lol.

Teddy, you will get an audio copy of Dracula on Ebay, if you really want a scare, then listen to Dennis Wheatley's The Devil Rides Out. You wont sleep for a week.

Rosie, I have the audio of The Devil Rides Out, all 13 hours of it. The scariest I have listened to was The Woman in Black, that terrified me in broad daylight.

Well I always read books but funny enough this week I have been thinking about borrowing audio books when I go to the library next for a change. I wouldn't have to keep disturbing my hubby by keeping the lamp on to read then and I could use my earphones so I wouldn't wake him and as I have difficulty sleeping it might help me to relax too. Mind you I love a good horror, the books make me jump so I think I'd react even more to the audio ones probably sleep out of fright. I know what you mean about the Woman in Black I've read the book twice and it put me on edge both times even in the daylight. If you like a good horror you should try some James Herbert, just read The Secret of Crickley Hall, pretty gripping stuff, bet that would be great on audio, have to see if I can get it.

I have had my nose stuck in a book all my life and there is absolutely nothing like a good read. Nowadays, my sight is very poor so I have tried the odd audio book in case they are the only choice I might have one day. I can't say I'm keen. It's infuriating if the phone rings or something. Re The Devil Rides Out', I don't know if it's on audio or not but I have always thought that The Haunting of Toby Jugg is Wheatley's scariest book. I slept with my light on for at least a week after I read it many years ago.

I prefer to read, and do it with great gusto. Took a speed reading course in High School and still read really fast, so it takes me no time to get through one.
I do have a couple of audio books, though. I have "The Purpose Driven Life" in the car and listen to it on occasion as I drive. Also have a copy of "The Hot Zone" which was one of my all-time favorites. It just doesn't have the "Umph" that the book does when reading it.
So yes, I prefer reading it for myself. And I'm really thankful that my eyes are good. This is a real joy I would totally miss.

I prefer to read books. I was born mostly deaf and while surgery has repaired some of the problem, I'm still a bit hearing impaired. That leaves the audios out for me, I'm afraid. I'll admit though, that spending 23 years as a bookseller also has made a tad partial. My parents owned (since retired) a bookstore and it was a blast. Sadly, I worked so many hours at the store, I had no time to read. Now I'm making up for lost time. :)

Reading books, but i wonder if you could get an audio copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula, now that would scare the wits out of you, but just reading it makes my hair stand on end.
Roxy I don't sleep as it is, i have read the book and couldn't put it down. Don't know about wanting to stay awake listening to it as well.

I have never tried Audio books. Saving that treat for if/when my eyesight fails. At the present I still have the pleasure of reading. When I take a trip to my local Library I feel like a child in a toy store ! I find it very satisfying seeing rows and rows of books for me to browse !

I am a confirmed book lover. I think of them as a pirate chest.
Just plain on the outside but full of delightful treasures.
I must admit that I have never listened to an audio book but I will check out my local library and see what they've got now that you mention it.

Books books and more books, however I have just thought back to when I was a Kid and we only had steam radio. I used to enjoy book of the week etc. So I suppose I should try audio books.
Good question.

I never tried an audio book. My choice in reading probably would not be available. I like old history texts. Reading the lies told then helps sort out the lies told now. Kinda boring, I know, but it keeps my mind working.
