I'm about to finish my first week on the birth control pill, and I can't help but notice that my period is a bit LONGER now that I'm taking it.

It usually lasts no more than five days, but I'm going on six now. I thought I was done with my period yesterday, so I stopped "plugging it up" (excuse the graphic-ness). But I woke up this morning a bloody mess.

Is this normal? Don't get me wrong, the flow is slowing down, but why is it seemingly longer?

When you first start the pill your period will be weird. Give it a few months and eventually it will be shorter. In the meantime you may have spotting at various times throughout your cycle. After three months on the pill, mine shortened to four or five days.

The morning after pill can make u more suseptible to an ectopic pregnancy. not sure if the long period is a sign but its wise to get it checked out. I took it several times and never had a longer than usual period. good luck and be safe.

It takes almost all birth control pills 3 months before they've got your system regulated and your periods down to a minimum. Until then, anything goes as far as bleeding.

P.S. You were supposed to start taking the pill the third to fifth day of your period...

I've been on pills 25 years.

who knows....the uterus is such a delicate environment...was your last period really light? did you miss one? I know if I skip a month, my god its like the "red river" has turned into a bloody (pun not intended) ocean.lol

You have also just started the Pill. Yoolu're putting things in your body. Like I said, the uterus is a delicate environment...it may just be reacting to what you've done. I dunno

Buy some lighter flow tampons and if it really keeps up and bugs you, go to the doctor :)

I just started on the pill and the exact same thing happened to me.

I don't think that it's anything to worry about.

Well, I can't speak for everyone but the pill makes my period shorter. I think it is different for everyone, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you are worried about it, talk to your doctor.

The pill can have different affects on different women. So it's just your body adjusting to it.
