Hormonal fluctuation can change the length and volume of flow, and it varies from time to time during your life. My mother is going through menopause and she says some weeks it will be very heavy while some weeks it will be extremely light. When I am on hormonal contraceptives my flow is lighter. I don't know that it will ALWAYS get lighter as I get older, but it WILL vary. Gotta love being a woman!

Why do you want to know--a guy?

The only time I had a really, really hard flow was an early miscarriage.

Otherwise, I had heavy periods, ended up in bed with muscle relaxers at least once a month.

Then I discovered birth control pills, and for the past 15 years I haven't had any menstrual distress at all. I'm 45 now.

Without the bcp, I have gone into menopause, so were I to stop taking the pill, I'd have no period at all. This started at 31...very early menopause.
