My father was mad for theatre and ballet and opera so I had the chance to go much more to the theatre.I believe I saw my first film when I was ten.

Mostly to the pictures, and they had showings just for children on Saturday mornings. Also when I was a child there were always two films on and in the interval a man playing an organ came up from a hole in the floor at the front of the cinema. We thought it was magic ! The only time I went to the theatre as a child was to a pantomime. Other than Musicals especially things like "Mama Mia" etc. I prefer the cinema.

Used to go to the pictures when a lot younger, as I got older I started going to the theatre. The major problem with going to the theatre was that I was more interested in the technical side of things, and picking up on the errors, that I'd lose the plot, so gave up going.
I remember going to see Elizabeth Estensen in Shirley Valentine, (the one woman version), but for me, it wasn't the show but Elizabeth's ability to stand up there alone and hold her audience, and the audience reaction.
I haven't been to either for years, if I did start going out again it would classical music concerts, at least I can close my eyes and listen, hopefully ignoring any duff notes.

Have not been to the Pictures for years ( do they still call it that or do the kids say the movies now like the Americans)
But we some times have live theatre in the village hall which I enjoy.

We had a small movie theater 10 minutes walk up the road when I was a child, where the admission was 10 cents per Saturday afternoon matinee. It was absolutely wonderful, and I got to see many a double feature there (with cartoons between).
The only outlet for live theater was what we kids did ourselves...and we were always getting together and "practising" our shows to put them on every second Saturday night. They were very much like Vaudeville shows. When we did musical numbers we had a record player going and the kids would lipsinc the lyrics, while acting out the "action" of the particular scene.
We all had great fun doing this, and all of our parents would gather quite happily in a backyard to watch our "shows".

I've done quite a bit of both. I think it depends on what I'm in the mood for.
I've learned a lot about live theater in just the last few years as my Son is a Theatrical Arts Major in College. I've also learned a lot about movies and what it takes to make one because he's done extra work in them.
I can't really say that I prefer one over the other. They're both interesting.

I really like going to Dinner Theaters and I've been to Broadway a few times as well , I like going to little neighborhood theaters too. But I must admit that movies are my favorite ever since I was a child. I so remember
Grandma & Grandpa taking me to a little town not far from us to see Ma & Pa Kettle, The Long Trailer w/ Lucy & Desi,
Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and I remember you could have heard a pin drop when Clark Gable said" frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

Theatre beats the cinema hands down. You can't beat a performance of Les Mis or Miss Saigon. No comparison.
