And they give you free coffee while you work there and a free bag of coffee beans per week.
So, you don't want to wear a green apron to work - that's a "crisis?????"

Oh btw they pay $9/hour and the job's no heavy lifting.
Seriously, I know you can't feed a family of 4 on that - so, if that's all to which you aspire, don't HAVE a family.

Gee Westhill two days ago it was 47 million.... Do you always just make up your own numbers?
And SBUX can't hire illegals, so there goes half that.
But thanks for playing!

I mean seriously Westhill, did a million people "lose" their health insurance on Saturday?
What was that based on, the Notre Dame game?
Have another drink Westhill.

I knew a polish immigrant family in the 70's. They owned their own home, a car, had no bills, were putting both of their sons through college and had saved for a retirement and he was making only $4 a hour working in a bakery, the wife was a stay at home mom. It can be done.

When anyone is discussing a quantity (such as the number of people with no health care coverage) and they want the number to appear high they will always quote the number. If they want to put it in perspective they will quote the percentage.
40 million with no coverage sounds like a lot. 13% of the population does not seem like much of a crisis but it is the reality. Secondly, we must be careful how we state things. No health care and no health care "coverage" are two different things. 100% of people receive health care regardless of ability to pay. (just ask an illegal alien sitting in an emergency room).
We must also ask who these 13% are? What is the make up of that 13% who have no coverage? Well there are of course the wealthy who do not need nor want health care insurance. There are non-American citizens in that number. There are also a great number of people earning over 50k per year but still refuse to purchase insurance. There are young people, in entry level jobs that would rather spend their money on other things. Since they are so unlikely to require any expensive health care they see health insurance as a waste of money.
Finally there is a number of people already eligible for existing programs who have failed to enroll. Not much we can do about that. They have to at least sign up.
Now that we put everything in context, there appears to be some more that can be done to encourage greater participation but there certainly does not appear to be a crisis. Why would we want to throw the baby out with the bathwater?

Explain to me why anyone would want to hang out with you? My fiancee is a college student. I was not qualified for FASFA this year. I'll soon be informing my supervisors that I CAN work 40 hours per week, should they choose to raise the hours I already have. When and if you become qualified to attend college, you'll soon discover that it is IMPOSSIBLE to work full time while attempting to achieve a decent GPA, for most students. Unless you're Doogie Houser, I would bet that only 5% of any student in history has ever successfully maintained decent grades while devoting their time to any job. You know who I am, is that the impression of you I gather? Who's to say that I worked every job before my recent 4-month layoff at LESS than 40 hours weekly? If you've ever been to Whitehaven, a rest stop in Paducah, Kentucky sometime since September of 2008, congratulations, you've taken a dump in a toilet that I scrubbed ever so delicately for at least an hour, on night shift, at minimum wage, so that you may take a dump without flushing the john or keeping the tissue in the bowl, seeing as you are yet another disrespectful, self-entitled American, with NO respect for your fellow man. You want to keep telling us to find 40 hours per week in this recession? Why don't you move on to a more productive quest, such as finding a needle in a haystack, or a cigarette smoker who isn't destined for cancer. We may have folks who work part time, teach classes on weaving baskets, or making jewelry...but the funny thing is, seems like those people all do what they LOVE to do. And the part timers, well, that's work, isn't it? Who are you to tell me how one's American dream should be followed? What do you do for a living? I'd love to know, because I've just decided that it isn't good enough. Why don't you go off and spend your time doing something that I approve of, whether or not you feel it's your calling in life? By the way, ALL OF US deserve health insurance they can afford, and that includes you. You know, much the same way your grandparents are unquestionably using Medicare. People shouldn't have to face a credit record blown to smithereens, the loss of their homes, or even the loss of their lives, as a side affect of chemotherapy treatment. EVERY teacher who has ever lived, working from any level between K-12 and College/Graduate school has received the summer off, with the exception of their field allowing them to teach summer classes, at their own discretion. Just because you never valued the lessons you were delivered in elementary school and because you decided to ditch those lessons the first time your parents blocked every channel but FOX, doesn't mean you have any base in trashing any teacher alive OR dead as invaluable to this country. "Marxist" teachers? How do you earn a title like that? Would it have something to do with the teachings of such principles as 2+2=4? Good grief, why don't you get some fresh air. It would do you a world of good.

The problem with the 45 million uninsured number is that it is inflated. It counts people who have been not been covered for as little as 2 months. And if by chance they are out again in that same year, they are added again. I think it's great that a company that pays only $9 per hour can provide these kind of benefits to it's employees. But let's face it, their profit margin is alot higher than the 9¢ per gallon that big oil makes. Many companies just aren't in the level of profit margins that Star Bucks is - and consumers would never pay those kinds of margins on many products.

It's a great 2nd job or if you are a college student and don't need a full income.... it still will not support you if you are living on your own, making a house payment or such.
With today's cost of living, you really need to make 30K plus to live somewhat comfortably.
