They skipped the Gay and lesbian debate on LOGO. They skipped the Hispanic debate on Univision and now they are skipping the black debate at Morgan State.
So my question is, have they stopped pretending that they give a damn about minorities. I mean we all know Republicans could care less about minorities. But at least in the past they pretended to care. Even Bush and Newt Gingrich are saying this is a mistake. Whats up with the republican party?

I see a lot of good responses. Most think the republicans will be hissed or booed I guess. But if you want to lead a country you have to represent everyone, not just the people that like you. If you are scared to go to a debate with minorities as as a focus, are you going to be scared to fight terrorism?

Yes, they've stop pretending. They're going for a high turnout by angry whites. We shouldn't complain though. In a way, it's the first little bit of honesty we've seen from the GOP in several years.
There's a cute editorial cartoon on this point in the NY Times today: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/23/opinion/23rich.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

I don't know where you are from but Hispanics are not a minority here in California. With everything that is going on with the immigration issue are you surprised they would skip the Hispanic debate
How many other Presidents have put minority's in high profile positions like George Bush did? Remember Powell, Rice & Ramirez what have the Dems done for minority's
The GOP never stood by Gay and lesbians they are conservative so i am not surprised and either should you be. I don't think they were pretending.
As you can very well tell the GOP has not been afraid to fight terrorism even with the Dem's nagging them the whole time so why ask such a lame question it's the Dem's who haven't wanted to do anything about Terrorism

The GOP never did. They treat all Americans equally, which can not be said for the Liberal Democrats.
The Liberals do not really care for the Minorities, otherwise they would not have destroyed the Black FAMILIES. The Liberals use the Minorities to get their votes only. When was the last time the Democrats DID ANYTHING GOOD for the Minorities. They are all talk and no action. They need to keep the Minorities poor and angry in order to get their vote. BUT, a lot of Minority Individuals have seen the truth, and have deserted the Liberal Party of the Moveon.org People. They have discovered that HATE does not really help them to improve their own Lives.

If someone invites you to their house, but when last you were there and while you were not there they heaped abuse on you, called you names, spread unfounded rumors about you, and treated you as "guilty until proved innocent", would you visit their house?
I'm stunned and embarrassed that people who claim the same party as I do have become so atrocious in their behavior and then act as if they are owed attention for it!
Make it a political debate, not a playground brawl, and those forums will be honored with visits from those who represent our country.
This political bigotry is getting tiresome.

Republicans would love to get minority votes because they believe they could turn some of the larger states but they realize that it’s a lost cause. Republicans have given up pretending that they care because they know that they can’t fool the minorities into voting for them with their regressive ideas and their pandering to bigots.

Republican conservatives do not care for "groups"; they care about individuals. We firmly believe that all men are created equal. We believe a man should be judged by the content of his character not the color of his skin. Gays are not a minority group unless they chose to define themselves as such. A person's sexual orientation is only one part of their character, of their make-up.
We have little tolerance for those who chose to consider themselves as helpless victims. We have great respect for and encourage those who make good decisions and are self-sufficient. A person can either play the cards he is dealt and succeed or cry about some perceived unfairness and wait for someone else to save him.
God and conservatives help those who help themselves. You will reach great heights if you think of your self as an American and not embrace the hyphen. African-American, Asian-American, Gay-American, Hispanic-American. You will never achieve the level of success and happiness as long as you embrace that God forsaken hyphen. Think of yourself as an American only. Take the gift of life, the gift of liberty and pursue your happiness. Make good decisions, overcome obstacles, work hard and smart and you will succeed. Sit back and expect others to provide for you and you will only survive on the lowest of ladder rungs.

The bigger question is when will the Democrats stop insisting that they do care for minorities, while they never trust them with high political offices, while they work to keep them enslaved in wellfare, etc?

i love Brian's response: "[the republicans] care more about [minorities] than the democrats"
LOL
republicans only care about their rich friends. everyone knows that -- anyone who thinks otherwise is either delusional or brainwashed.
p.s. don't forget about what they think about the poor -- they refuse to fund social programs to help the poor, and keep voting against any minimum wage-increase bill -- and then they say it's for the poor people's own good, that it helps them!

I've never pretended to care about minorities. I do however take equal rights pretty seriously though.
