-Israel receives billions of dollars in economic aid from the US Govt. annually.

-The Israeli military could not function at such a high rate w/o billions of dollars in annual US military aid.

-If/when the US attacks Iran it will be as much (if not more) for Israel's national security as the US national security.

-If the holy land wasn't a part of Israel the US would have almost nothing to do with Israel.

-The only real difference between a US state & Israel is that Israelis don't have to pay any US taxes for all the things that they get from the US Govt.

-Now I have no problem with helping out Israel because I believe they've got ever right to be the protectors of the Holy Land but I think they should at least have to pay US taxes for all the billions of $ in US welfare/military aid they receive every year. Don't you think that is fair?

The Palestinians should be the protectors of the Holy Land. Many Palestinians are Christians. The US props up Israel because of the Jewish lobby in the US, not because of the Holy land.

I'm for the Middle East and Muslim, so this qualifies my answer.

It is naive to think that the USA and Israel cooperate on ideology or religion. In my mind it is a matter of protecting interests.

The oil interest in the Middle East are too substantial and too crucial, not only for the US, but for the rest of the world as well to leave under threat.

If you look at the Middle Eastern countries you see a collection of dictators, lunatics and otherwise unsavoury characters running things to a large extent.

The US has not choice but to support an ally in the region. Thus the help to Israel.

If Egypt - for example - was a stabilizing factor in the region, I am sure it would also receive US support.

What I find hypocritical is that the rest of the "West" attacks the US policy, but at the same time benefit from the continued flow of oil.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the US foreign policy is exemplary - it's far from it. But so far the rest of the world hasn't pulled up their socks and come up with an alternative.

It's a disgusting situation all around.

Many countries receive billions in aid from the US -- Israel is hardly unique in that fiscal arena.

And many countries' militaries depend on US assistance -- including Japan and Saudi Arabia. But Israel actually buys most of its' military hardware from other countries nowadays, so saying their military could not function is a bit of a stretch.

If the US chooses to unilaterally attack Iran, it's justification will still be meaningless -- whether we claim to be doing it for Isreal or not -- we would just be doing it as part of our global campaign to be the next great empire.

Why the US chooses to have Israel as an ally is also irrelevant -- but the argument could be made that the US allies with Israel for the same reason we ally with Turkey -- both give us valuable strategic and tactical intelligence and bases of operations in the region.

And there are a lot more differences between the US protectorates (like Guam and Puerto Rico) and Israel than just taxes -- like the fact that US laws are not in effect in Israel.

I don't agree with most US payments to foreign countries. But Israel is hardly unique in getting billions of dollars a year in federal aid. So, no, they should not have to pay US taxes -- and our govt should stop giving our money away to ANY of the countries that we currently do.

-The Israeli military was formed without the help of the U.S. They make a very good living by manufacturing arms themselves, if nobody ever told you that.

-Most of us don't give a rat's as s about the so-called "Holy Land" and would just as soon consign it to the safekeeping of Glowingcobalt, the god of nuclear fission. You can include Mecca and Medina in that, too.

-The U.S. will not attack Iran for the sake of Israel.

What is the point of taxing government handouts? I don't see what you're getting at, here. What's the point of giving someone a $200 welfare check and telling them right away that they have to set $30 aside to give back? You're just plain nuts.

You may mean well, but you're out to lunch on the details. Did you ever play Stratego, chess or anything like that? I don't want to be insulting , but you're wacka-wacka. Not because what you say is false, but you've got it all wrong daddy-yo. We want Israel's support. It's us who need them. Or as you would see it, it's us who thinks we need them. I think you should rephrase your question to ask that, now that would generate some comments: "Do we need Israel's help?" From my basic understanding of chess, stratego, etc. that answer would be a definite yes. If there was another country that would support an allegiance or loyalty to us, we would send them money too. I believe Turkey, would be the next country after Israel that we would try to develop an alliance with besides the obvious Iraq. Iraq was sitting there like a fat thanksgiving turkey. Because of Saddam's attrocities and his noncooperation concerning weapons inspection, our leadership was emboldened to do the unthinkable in today's world: invade! Forget sending money, etc., the eyes of the world disapprove and because of 9-11 will hardly fault us for invading. We want our sphere of influence to be wide enough to protect us. "We are fighting them over there, so we are not fighting them over here."

Perhaps, but not fundamentally due to the war on terror. There are other factors on a global scale that have been blurring the concept of sovereignty for many nations for a long time. It is just that it is becoming impossible to hide it anymore.

well, Israel has been America's "mini me" for decades. like your assessment that Israel is "the protector of the holy land", America's Christians apparently need to pander to and prop up the "chosen people" in order to get into heaven.

i, not being Christian, resent paying my taxes so that Israelis can better oppress their Muslim neighbors.

God says He will bless those who Bless Israel. I would much rather have Gods Blessings, than collect taxes from Israel. Why else would the USA be the greatest nation on earth, even as we turn away from God as a country we are still blessed and prosper. Praise The Holy Lamb Of God.
