Democrat (not a liberal, not a socialist).
Free speech first.
Feel free to use it.
Expect the contempt of those around you for the act.
Still your right to speak it, same as burning the flat (and the contempt that brings as well).

Free speech comes with that price.

Why is it that whites and I assume that because of the answers that I have read to this question are so concern about what African Americans chose to call each other. What is the problem there are double standards in this country always has been and always will be because you all can't get pass the fact that because of the History between the races it doesn't quite mean the same when you say it oppose to when they say it among themselves if they say it to each other what harm does it cause you and if they ask you to respect that is that difficult for you if the shoe was on the other foot and your people where hung raped and slaughter like pigs for the littlest infraction for walking on the same side of the street or for looking at a white person or drinking from the same water fountain or riding on the bus how would you feel? they have there problems as we all do give them a break . you have nothing positive to say you want everything they have except the struggle the skin color you tan you love their music you buy it so shut up about the N word and be glad you are who you are.

I am not black. I am a member of a smaller minority, the Jewish people. No I don't like the n word by anyone, any more then I like the racial slurs when they are about me. Believe me when I say there are a lot more slurs about the Jewish People then anybody else that I have heard. I am always told it was a joke, it was all in fun, and that I did not mean anything by it.

Slurring anyone by anyone is wrong whether is the same race on race, the same religion on the same religion, or the same ethnic group on the same ethnic group. It is also wrong when different peoples slur each other. I never generalize. In fact I have Islamic friends. We can sit together and discuss the problems of the world, just as much as we can discuss a movie.

Slurring is just hateful and unnecessary.

Its kind of a tough situation, in that, while we have free speech, we also need to erase hatred from out minds. We have to convince people to want the word banned, and sadly, so many people would rather hate each other than move forward.

The meaning of the word sucks and shouldnt be said.
If its said by another person other than a minority (blacks, Lationos, ect.) Its okay. But if its said by a white person, its a racial slur.
but what sucks more is that African Americans refer to each other by that word. Its a horrible word and just shouldnt be said.

Too laden with negative connotation.
It is not part of my vocabulary even if I did grow up hearing it frequently. As a white person growing up in a former Confederate state, who had relatives in the Klan before I was born, I chose not to pass this part of my heritage on to my kid.

Why is it ok for Blacks to say it? If someone yells out cracker, people laugh, but if you hear n***er, its like, oh no you didn't! Jessie Jackson said that Obama was acting like a white man...racist? But no one will talk about that will they. Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson need to get out of past history, with slavery etc. It's old news, they are just buying popularity points to possibly get President someday.

The biggest problem I have with it is the double standard. It's okay for black rappers and entertainers to use but no one else. What kind of caveman thinking is that? Also, it's no worse that what some Anglos, Asians, and Hispanics are called... and you don't see them crying about it. Blacks who are offended about it need to clean up their own back yard first if they don't like the word.
