I am looking to make my small (1 metre sq) garden pond safe for children to be around.

Can anyone suggest how I can do this without having to fill the pond in?

Thanks

Use some reinforcing mesh(used for reinforcing concrete pads/driveways etc) cut it to fit pond , weld on some legs to hold it just under surface of water and clip on some small gap chicken netting to the top and if a child falls in there is only approx 5mm of water , the rest is below the mesh

Yikes, an electric fence to keep the kids out seems a little extreme!! As everyone knows, you can drown in a inch of water. You need to treat the area as if it were a swimming pool. A fence and or net cover. The most important thing is adult supervision. RScott

very easy.... go get enuff round rocks to fill the pond...now, I'm talkingBIG round rocks...not pebbles!!!..... something the size of a loaf of bread, ya know?... round, so that there's no sharp points to hurt the pond or any one nearby... still enuff water movement between them to keep the water cool and clear and sounding good..... but highly unlikely that even a small one could get a scare from it...... and since you're there with them anyhow....................I used this with my youngest Grandie since she was entranced by water and likely to slip out the door at a second's notice.... worked great!!!... found her sitting on the rocks one day, playing in the waterfall!!!...

We have an electric fence around ours, to keep the animals out. It will NOT hurt them, just give them a mild ZAP to keep them out. We unplug it if we need to do work in the pond.
