I have the George Washington coin, but I would like to start collecting the others. What is the best way to obtain these? I do not want to buy them, as I only want one of each, since I'm not collecting for big profit later. It's just something I think would be neat to have, like the State quarters. Would the bank give you them if you wanted them for change? Thanks, and I appreciate the help!

You can get them from the bank and the post office for face value.

I am not so sure about all the the post offices, but most banks have the new ones as they come out. The deal is banks can order the latest one from the Federal Reserve Banks, but can not reorder the old ones by President. They have to take what is available, so bank don't reorder. The coins are not circulating so finding them in change is hard. When they dump the dollar note, which will save us taxpayers millions of dollars in printing costs, then dollar coins will circulate. A note last only for a few months but a coin can last for many years.
