6x = 42

x-2=40-5x

+5x+x -40-2
6x - 42
x= 42/6x
x= 7

correction to above:

x - 2 = 40 - 5x
6x = 42
x=7

apparently the answer I was correcting has been deleted. But I stick with my answer: x=7.
