Maybe they do not think the content of the movie is appropriate for your age group.

I have to ask very nicely and tell them I intend to see a rated "r" movie. And I intend not actually watch the movie and not make out. I also slip in that I will not talk through the whole movie.
I am 23 by the way. I just like my parents to know what there kid if watching. Then I like to tell them all the details. Which helps me make them watch better movies than the crap they watch.

We need more information to appropriately answer the question.
Your parents may object to the movie because it contains violence, sex, nudity, bad language, or situations that they do not want to expose you to. The other thing is that lots of kids go to the movies to make out with their boyfriends or girlfriends, and you parents may think that you're not old enough for that.
If you just want to go with your friends. Ask them if you can go with your friends, and they can sit in the back of the movie away from you and your friends. You can even arrive separately. If they agree to this, they will see how you behave at the theater, and they may be more apt to trust you to go alone.

Because they were afraid I wouldn't know how to use proper English when writing a question!
Why your parents would not allow you to go to a movie.

For a good answer, you will have to be a LOT more specific. What movie, what's the reason for them not letting you go, is it because of the movie, the people you want to see it with, the distance you have to travel, your behaviour or maturity level.
Lots of questions are needed before you can get a valid answer.

adults are over protective. you could get kidnaped or watch a movie they dislike. due to sexual humor, language, or nudity. they need to see the movie for them selves first and maybe they will let you go. try giving a summary that makes it sound like a good not inappropriate movie. or they are just cheap and would rather spend on furnature that is not needed or clothes you hate or look weird

Sorry can't answer that on the basis that it's not grammatically correct. Please ask, "Why don't parents allow kids to go to the movies?" or something that makes a little more sense. Then I'll be happy to explain why.

Maybe because they don't trust the people your with or the people who hang out at the movies/ Maybe because they read the reviews and they are bad or have adultish things. What's it rated?? Good luck with this! There are millions of reasons!
