Jena 6 - What do you think?

I would like to know what everyone's opinnion is on this situation. My personal opinnion is that the white tree should have never existed and the nooses were uncalled for. The school should have punished these students, but because there are racist and cruel people that does not give another person the right to beat someone. I am not sure these boys did not beat up the victim out of anger and could have killed him. there was 6 boys ganging up on 1. I really do not think the system is wrong charging them. Just because there is name calling and racism....those are just words this does not give another human a right to physically hurt someone.

The imbalance of Justice does nothing to help race relations in this country.

You left a lot of the story out. The black kids should not have beat up that white boy. But, the white kids shouldn't have hung the nooses, beat up a black boy at a party, called them racial slurs and get a "slap on the wrist" for everything they did. The grown white man shouldn't have pulled a shotgun out on the black kids and got away with it either. The punishment should fit the crime for everyone of those kids. It seems like we're back in the 60's fighting for civil rights!

You want to know what I think? I think that all parties involved on both sides have some deeply rooted racial fences built up. I think that the media whore parasites led by Al "Tawanna Brawley" Sharpton and Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson are at the forefront of what's fueling the fire. The tree should have been shared. The nooses never tied. The boy never beaten. The issue never escalated. I think this is another festering sore on brotherhood!

I think they were rightly charged. Irregardless of the prior circumstances, six on one is more than just a fight; it's a beating.. How come when people see videos of six police officers battling one suspect, they cry police brutality and excessive force, and say that many officers against one suspect was uncalled for, but they have nothing of the sort to say about the Jena 6? Yes, they did it out of anger, and the boy they beat was not even involved in hanging nooses. So, it is a hate crime. People need to get over who is black and who is white. Just look at the incidents and the resulting damage. Hanging nooses in trees....crass, stupid thing to do. Anyone physically harmed? No. Six guys jumping on one guy and beating him up. Physical harm? You bet. One is a stupid prank; the other is a crime.

They should all get punished. The FBI said it had all the writings of a hate crime( the nooses), you do that in my neighborhood and you are getting crisped. I respect you, therefore you best respect me. Things like this thank God have never happened in my neighborhood. We are working on the sean bell case here. injustice is injustice no matter how you slice it. The kids should have never done anything as inciteful as the nooses and there would have been none of this today. Thank god People dont worry about that skin color or lack thereof where I live. this is exhausting to see how race can and will continue to separate a nation.

If the white kid yelled slurs at 6 afro kids, he had to be demented. That is too hard to believe. Racism exits there, but the white kid getting pummeled is not tolerable. I had a geek friend who was stomped into unconsciousness by a black gang and there is no way this geek mouthed off to them. They just jumped him for being white. I know this happens the other way too. The thugs need to be punished, but maybe the courts in Jena are too harsh. But if I were stomped into oblivion, I am not sure what I would think was too harsh, myself. I am also tired of Al Sharpton jumping into the limelight all the time. He is more interested in his fame than in helping. He also never apologizes for getting it wrong. Tywana Brawley? The Duke players? The justice system in Jena needs to be looked into for racial bias, but a white kid getting stomped does not even the score.

I think the kids who hung nooses should have gotten something more than 3 days suspension but that doesn't mean those six kids should get off without getting punished for what THEY did. I'm so sick and tired of minories playing the race card. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (not Rev's by ANY stretch of the imagination) are camera happy oportunists. If those two would stop screaming "RACE" everytime somethin involving minorties happens, Maybe minorities would not be as segratated as they are. If they would just consider themselves part of the human race instead of something seperate maybe they'd stop getting treated at such! God I am so sick of hearing this crap! As some one who has lived through Katrina and what happened after that, I'm so ready to move out of the south!

What if the tables were turned. What if 6 whites kids beat up one black kid to an inch of his life. Al sharpton and all the activists would still be holding up signs. The only difference is that they would say "SEND THE JENA SIX AWAY FOR LIFE".

There would have been little or no reaction if it had been a one on one fight. At 6 to one the white kid had no chance. It is gang mentality. It is white gang against black gang. It may not be a gang in the formal sense, but it is one group against another. Until respect for the individual overcomes this mentality there will always be this type of conflict. It is going on in every city.

Yes the nooses were wrong but so was murdering someone. Ive heard some black people say that we are trying to victimize them just like they are to us but its not working so keep trying, lol wtf? How long is this racial bs going to go on, get over it people its just a color of someones skin.
