The real answer is because they are told to get upset at the Iranian president, and not told to get upset at the KKK.
Sadly, it's largely a function of how issues are presented -- what type of spin is put on them -- and that's done by politicians and the media. Far too many people have long ago stopped thinking for themselves.

I don't think people do turn a blind eye to the KKK.
I personally haven't heard about or seen any KKK related threats. If I had, I'd be pretty upset about it. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, or maybe the media is covering it up, but either way I haven't heard about the KKK in way too long.
And the President represents America. When the President goes around and makes a jerk of the country, he puts us all in danger. The KKK hasn't been in a position of power since the '60s. If that changed I'm sure people everywhere would be up in arms, but for now they aren't. That doesn't make them horrible, it makes them realistic.

I think it's because we're used to the KKK, and, for the most part, they stopped carrying out their threats a few decades ago. Now they're basically a bunch of losers who blame blacks, Jews, etc., for the fact that they, the KKK members, are losers. If they started carrying out their threats, people would take them seriously again.
