The earth is a spheroid. It is somewhat ovoid in shape.

Momentum from some unknown but much theorized event of creation imparted its motions. The earth's rotation and orbit are gradually slowing. In a few billions of years it might cause major changes in weather. If we survive human caused climate changes that is.

Yes, the earth is round (almost like a sphere) and it goes round because of the momentum (if you spin a wheel, it keeps rotating for quite some time and eventually stops due to friction). In the case of earth, the friction is almost zero and hence the earth has been rotating for a few billion years and will rotate for a few billion years more.
