When an animal dies in a zoo, what do they do with the body?

Well depending on the animal and how well the zoo vet facility is equipped, nine times out of ten the animal will be sent for a necropsy to determine how the animal died. Some times the animal is also donated to research facilities or vet colleges to aid in learning how to care for those that are still alive.

From there most of the animals are cremated. At times depending on the animal some will be buried on zoo property. There are also times (not to sound gross) where parts of the animal are kept for educational purpose. For example if an animal dies they might keep the skull, bones, teeth, tusks or claws to help educate the public.

For the most part though the animals are just sent for a necropsy then cremated.

Usually the carcass is incinerated, but sometimes it's taxidermied and mounted for display or teaching. Some zoos with active docent programs may also preserve pelt/skin, horns, etc. so children or adults can touch them. Tiger fur is really coarse!

I promised to never tell anyone, but I will give you a hint. Never order the "special of the day" at the zoo's cafeteria.

I think you want us to say that they feed them to the lions but that is not true, they are incinerated.
