In a co-education class, 3/5 of the pupils are boys. If 1/2 of the girls are under 12 years of age and the remaing 8 girls are over 12, how many boys are there in the class? What is the total number of pupils in the class?

If 3/5 of the students are boys, 2/5 must be girls.

Half of the girls means 1/5 and if the remaining girls are 8, obviously 8 represents 1/5th of the class. So, total class is 40.

3/5 of 40 is 24 and that represents the number of boys.

These problems try to test your verbal comprehension and whether you can convert the words into numbers.
