Funny, I haven't heard it that often. I knew a girl named Lorraine and her nickname was Rainy. I liked it on her but like you, I would never use the name Rain.

It's a random word name that happens to be one syllable, so parents who don't put much thought into a name besides "does it sound pretty" often think it a nice choice. Much like Sky, Skye, Skie, Star, Starr, Love, Luv or Jade, Jayd, Jaid, Jaide (and any others you can think of LOL). All of those are fairly common, trendy choices, and you'll rarely hear a reasoning beyond it sounding "pretty" with the first name. LOL
Hope that helps!

I agree with you I like personaly it's a cute name like there is one celebrity daughter named Raine Bou.
And i also see it alot in middle names spelled either
Rayne
Rain
Raine
And yes I do think it will turn into a name like "Marie" or "Nicole", or at least pretty close to it.

It very well could become as common as Marie or Nicole. After all, our ideas evolve and change as time goes on, so why wouldn't that extend to the names we choose for our children? Today we're quite different than say even 100 years ago, where Matilda and Eunice were common popular names. Thanks goodness we've moved on! I welcome change and growth. It shows we're thinking and not stuck in a rut! Bring on the "Rains"!

We were going to use that name. My daughter was going to be Ahnika Rayne. I thought it sounded beautiful but my parents talked me out of it saying that it was "too different." I like different! So, Ahnika Rayne ended up being Sydney Lynn! :) I still love Rain/Rayne for a middle name.

I'm not really sure. Since Raina (can be spelt different) became so popular I guess they were just looking for a male/female variation of the name. And I think it's sorta of hippy and I like hippy!

I think it's stupid to give your kid a word-name, especially if you can't even spell it. But mostly it's the result of idiot parents wanting to be ~*~unique~*~ just like everybody else.
