My son is about to turn 12 & he's becoming very stereotypical of a teenager. He tries to be Mr. Class Clown & Mr. Popular. He's more interested in the 15 year old up the street & his friends than he is with school work!

Already this year (since July) I've received a call from his band teacher about how he won't participate, doesn't come prepared, etc. I talked to him & got him to realize he needed to straighten up & he did.

Then I got a call from one of his teachers saying he's not turning in all his homework (he always tells me he does it at school). And now yesterday I got a letter saying he's failing 3 of his classes!

What do I do?!?!?! Ground him for a week? Make him study each night? I feel so blind because I don't know what's going on at school. I have no way of really knowing if he's got homework when he says he doesn't. I feel bad because he was supposed to be held back last year but I convinced the school to move him on. I KNOW he can do this!! Somebody help me?

you know what my parents did to me when i started failing a couple classes in the 6th grade?? check this out!!

they went and bought me a couple really NERDY outfits that i would NEVER wear.. i think they went to ARC or something.. took ALL my other clothes, and stashed them, so that i could not find anything name brand or anything that i was used to having.. then.. they made me go to school.. and they had talked to the principal.. and at random.. one of them would take an hour or two off during the day, and they would show up and go with me to my classes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!

they continued with this till my grades improved.. needless to say.. i never let them slip again

Smoking weed ---- check his room for stuff but don't be messy--stay neat... No more money for allowance or lunch -- bag a lunch... Have him ride the school bus.... Treat him like the 11 year old baby that he is...No computer -- ground him till the grades are good -- mow the grass -- take out the trash -- wash the dishes... His friends want to see him let them come over to his house... Go to BigK and get a pair of shoes that are not designer and throw out the others... If his pants are not pulled up -- pull them up -- Ask? What is the business about the band???
The least he can do is play an instrument... He is at school with no goals---Mom... Graduation is not enough for him....What about wood shop -- auto Mechanics -- tool and die --- welding --- computer repair... Mom need to stick your hands in the goodie pile and find out what the school is offering....
He will next get into criminal mischief and thing will get worse after that.... A few years ago you could slam him up against the wall to get his attention...

Talk with each of his teachers and have them send home a homework check list. That way, you know what he is supposed to do and the two of you can get it done. You are going to have to have some major communication between you and the teachers..This is huge at this age, and if you can get it when it starts and help put an end to it, he will be better for it...

first of all all teachers now are on the web and have email address and you can email them and tell them to let you know keep on him hes normal but you have to be careful cause of so many drugs out there. there are so many you wouldn't believe whom they are just keep on his butt and if you have to have him show you the home work and keep up with the teachers and they will tell you on emails. take care.
