I have posted an ad on gumtree to swap my mobile with another and i got a reply from s.o who lives in scotland and insists that i send mine first on recorded delivery...now i think that it is a scam as i asked him for his number and he said that i can only txt him.
Also, he can send me an empty box and i would sign for it and he might go away with it...what do u think??
Thanks guys xxx

Ever heard the phrase: "Possession is nine tenths of the law"?

Don't do it; never promise to send for exchange anything you truly value.

This has scam written all over it. Even on Ebay, payment must be made before goods are despatched, and even on Ebay people take payment and don't deliver.

As you say you don't know the other person, even more reason NOT TO DO IT!

Why don't you try again on gumtree but on your regional area of the website.. means possibly you could initiate the swap in person with hardly any distance to be travelled. Also.. yes its a scam.

Sounds like he took control of something that YOU wanted to do. After he has the phone in his hands im sure all the excuses will start coming. People will do anything to get something without having to work for it it seems. Maybe u should try someone else, good luck!

I reckon it probably is especially the fact that you can only text him and that it is a mobile number probably means it is a scam also i watch the real hustle and they do scams like that all the time

If no mobile has arrived then I definately wouldn't do it. He must think that you are some mug. It's a bit dodgy that he won't even give you a number for contact purposes. Just reply no thanks to that person if they contact you again, and put it down to experience, and be aware that there are horrible people out there.

Not sure if its a scam but would avoid it, just incase. Why dont you try your local freecycle because you can maybe swap with somebody in your own area..

If it sounds too good, it probably is a scam. Walk away and try something else.
