My husband and i are having our first child together. I have a daughter from another husband named Lavendar. Me and my current husband are having a very hard time deciding. My name is jennifer ann Hall. my husand is thomas. I hate having a normal boring name that everyone has. I always have disliked my name because i knew so many people with it. My husband wants are daughter to have a "normal" ordinary name. but i want her to have a different name something unique. I know everyone will argue that she will get made fun of but i knew a girl named amanda which is a pretty plain name and they still found a way to make fun of that. They always called her "a man duh" As if saying she was a man and then saying duh after it. If someone doesnt like you they will find anyone to make your name sound dumb, or they will just attack something else about you.anyway here are my choices and here are my husbands
mine
Neveah Summer Hall
Astrid Jadis Hall
Zovianna Jadis Hall
Veda Astrid Hall

Yours are definately unique! I like Neveah the best. I don't think that it's that far out there and it's very pretty!
Good luck!

Wow, you are miles apart!
I really think you need to start again. There are so many names between the Emilys and the Zoviannas. While you're right that *any* name can lead to teasing and it is a bear to be known as Jennifer H., Amy L., Sara G., Emma F., your husband's concerns are not unreasonable.
I think Lavendar is a great name. What about a name that contains the kernel of a classic name, but gives it a twist?
Annaliese
Marianna
Anya
Annika/Anica
Or a literary/mythological/artist name that is "legitimate" but unusual.
Portia
Rhiannon
Willow
Gelsey
Allegra
Giselle
Callisto
Capella
Or something very old:
Aurelia
Leocadia/Leacadia/Leacadie
And if you can come up with a "normal" nickname, you might both agree - Callie for Callisto, for example. After all, you're both going to saying this name for years to come - happy baby!

His is better
I going to suggest some uncommon normal names
They are rank in the top 1000 names in 2006
Kiersten rank 508
Kerry rank 971
Luna rank 519
Johannah, did not make the list
Rayna rank 811
Trista rank 812
Tallaulah, Tallie, did not make the list
Celia, rank 707
Sherrie, did not make the rest
Shayna rank 810
Zara rank 858
Jodi, rank 944
I did not give you anynames under 500 of the 1000 names
You can have a nomal name that is not common
Nevaeh was rank 43 out of the top 1000 girl names last year. It is more common than you think

The best solution in this case would be to pick one more common name and one not so common name. Personally, I would choose the less common for the first name. You can always let the child decide which name to go by once she starts school!
I like Veda Marie. I like Zovianna too, but I wouldn't put any of your husbands picks with it for a middle name.
It all boils down to compromise! I don't have a common name, nor does my daughter, but my son does. I had people tell me all kinds of things like "she'll never be able to spell that" or "we'll shorten it to a nickname". People!!

From your choices, I only like Neveah Summer. From your husband's choices, I like Emily Ray and Rachel Marie. Then I'd narrow those choices down to Neveah Summer and Emily Ray. I like both of these names very much :]

Okay they are YOUR baby names - so you have to be happy with the choice, but going to far out in left field can just complicate things.
I think your list is a little too out there (sorry), and your husbands might be a little mundane for my taste. My husband and I went through this with naming the children and just kept putting names together until we found something we were happy with with - we ended up with a Kellie, a Kamryn, an Aimee, and a Jacob (Dad's only boy - I let him name him whatever he liked!)
Try to find a middle ground without taking your child to far into odd or too deep into mundane -- in the end they will benefit from a name that is pronouceable and fits who they are.

I like Astrid, the rest are just odd. Dont choose a name that you think is 'cool' or 'different' for the sake of it. Remember your child may grow up to think it's shite, and want a 'normal' name. I also like Rachel or Emily that your partner has chosen, both very nice regular names.

All kids will get the piss taken out of their names at some time.
I'm called amanda..never heard of A-Man-Duh but I was called Amanda Panda...which really isn't that bad.
I have a son called Tao (Tay-oh) and he hates his name not because people make fun, but because its different.
You can't win with kids.
Call them what you like.
One day, they will grow into adults that don't do the whole name calling thing!!!
