Audi came out with a 5 straight in the 80's and it was a very successful engine (with and without turbo) to the extent the Audi Quattros won many rallies. The success of 5 cylinders made the VAG engineers to go a step ahead and make the V-5 which has again, over the years, proved its worth. They also use it on the Skoda cars currently being made under licence in Poland.

It's amazing how many people have said 'No', without even bothering to check first.
Honda made a V3 motorcycle back in the 1980's, the NSR-400.
They are also running a V5 race bike - a road-going version was due to be used in the CBR-1100 Blackbird replacement.

My first reaction would be no, but I saw the previous answer about VW and remembered a friend of mine had a Golf with a V5 engine.

Honda did in its RC211V MotoGP race bike. I gather that's the only true V5, the superb VR5 popular in the VAG cars is in fact a staggered 5, with all the cylinders in the same bank.

A vee engine must be equal each bank of cylinders.A straight engine may have any number of cylinders in line.VW made a straight 5 cylinder engine as an alternative to a 4 cylinder with a turbo.

GM made an inline 5 cylender in the S-10 series - the typoon/cyclone. A v-5? I doubt it - it needs to be balanced , both sides or itll rip itself apart.
