I'm not sure of salmonella but the rest of the answers are all possibilities. Impressing the ladies would be a spring thing but mine never do. Parasites will make fish jump out of my aquariums but I've never had a problem outside. I suppose bad water chemistry might be a reason but mine become lethargic and gulp air when stressed. My koi raise there heads out of the water at feeding time - too cute, but never leap. Which leaves insects and playing. My gold fish will leap for insects in late afternoon through evening. What's funny is when one jumps for an insect, others leap for no apparent reason. I can only assume they're playing follow the leader. RScott

particular, of direction safety ought to come first, and in case you have stable clarification for filling in a pond this is a different remember, sorry i did not comprehend this in my previous answer! whether, this is nonetheless a great step to take, and a pity to ought to do it if it must be prevented. With our grandchildren, who do not pass to very generally, we made particular the doors to the backyard have been locked and the keys hung up on a intense hook whilst they visited, yet whilst they had lived closer and are available many cases we would have had to think of of something else. Now the youngest is 6 all of them appreciate the pond dipping etc and learn plenty, nonetheless supervised of direction. Our daughter has a pond, and whilst her toddler become small she put in a metallic grid over it, which become high-quality because of the fact the water flowers quickly grew up with the aid of it and it did not look obvious. perhaps you ought to analyze this? the different decision is to fence off the area, of direction. Or, as you're saying, fill it in and wait some years earlier perhaps reinstating it.

I think its natural,I keep koi so the water has to be good quality and my fish jump.It has been said that they do it to clean their gills. It would be worth testing the water to be sure and check for small parasites clinging to the fish.Another point is that your pond seems to be over stocked ie the amount of "fish inches" for48 sq ft of area so water quality could be a problem in terms of high nitrite
