Perhaps you are looking for flora and fauna? Flora being plants and fauna being used for animals.

If you are not counting plants perhaps you are looking for vertebrates (has spine) and invertebrates (no spine).

In case of Animals:

You can have several classification categories like the following:

1. Deuterostomes and Protostomes
2. Vertebrates and Invertebrates
3. Bilateria and Radiata

Your question is quite vague.
