I've noticed on many sites, they must be running some code that places the small icon next to their URL in the address bar.

Anyone know how to do this? What the specific coding is? I would assume it would also be helpful to know the dimensions the icon has to be?

Seems like an important tool for website owners.

Design a 16 x 16 Icon. It MUST be an ICO type (not a jpeg converted!).
Name it "favicon.ico".
Upload it to your server. (in this case, in the "pics" directory)
In the Head of your page, add:

That's it!
Remember:
1. it MUST be an ICON.
You can design it as a jpeg, but that won't work.
I have used "iconforge": it takes an image of any format and converts it as an Icon.
2. It MUST be called "favicon.ico".

Just make a 16x16 icon. name it favicon.ico and place it in your main directory. Browswers should pick it up automatically.
