If you were to take over as head coach of a college football program, what kind of an offense would you run? What kind of a defense would you run? What types of athletes would you need in order to make your scheme successful?

Looks like this is the age of the Rodriguez spread offense, it has been and continues to shift the balances of power all over the place! Think about Northwestern a few years ago, that was Rodriguez's scheme they were using. It's all over the place now, and it seemingly can't be denied. For the time being anyway, it's dominant, unless you have athletes like USC has, then you can run whatever offense you feel like running!

For the Rodriguez spread you need lightning fast athletes, and tough to boot!

My personal fav is and has always been the wishbone, though, and if I coached on a lower level I would use that!

Depends on what kind of talent I had on the team...

I would prefer to run a spread offense and make sure I had a RB who could be counted on for 4 yards a carry...

If I had a couple running backs that could do that, I would probably run an I-formation offense or a split-T so I could have both of them on the field at the same time...

I formation with a big strong running back and a good 2 way tight end, smart, athletic QB to establish the option game. For defense I would hope to get 2 really good corners and run a 46 style D, and pressure the hell out of the other QB.

I would run a multiple formation offense so that I could be flexable and confusing. I would want large strong linemen, to be able to knock the defense off the line and push them around.

On defense I would want guys who were fast and quick who could tackle well. I would play a 4-3 scheme with lots of unpredictable blitz packages.

I really like the spread offense, but in the long run a balanced offense should win out more times than not. I would probably pass 40% and run 60%. But then again you have to play your strengths. If I have a great QB and good recievers, I will pass more, if my RB's are great I would run more.
