People in even 9 to 5 jobs actually leave work at different times or are delayed. This puts the other sharers to a great inconvenience especially when it is the driver who is delayed particularly if they all work for different companies

Ever since there were men (and women) on earth there has been compotition people (especially men) see a car as somthing they pride themselfs on - a sort of mines better thsn yours thing.
Its not very practical either - christmas day, new years eve, bonfire night; everyone will want the car.
The chances are half our population dont even care about global warming.
Even if they do you wouldnt want someone elses sick or whatever in your car when you didnt even know them.
Why dont you just catch the bus or the train - its even more environmentaly stable than sharing a car.

Ecological climate or not, cars are about percieving that you have independence and freedom. Who wants to share that with some smelly stranger and having to work the same times as they do?
That attitude isn't "good for the planet", but cars and driving evoke strong personal feeling in people.

It's unfortunate but car pooling rarely works. We have a real heightened sense of individuality and self absorption that having pick someone up - drop them off - wait for them is considered such an inconvenience. To some people it's just faster to travel alone. We're so consumed with doing everything quickly that we don't stop to consider that car pooling, for example, could lead to enriched relationships with others, less traffic congestion, less of a gas expense, and a cleaner environment. Good luck finding a car pooler :-)

In much the same way that a lack of housing DOESN'T make us all want to share our homes.
Personal freedom, space & choice - some of the few things left in this country that despite HUGE tax levies the government hasn't taken away...yet.

People don't like sharing their cars with strangers, or even friends.
I know that first thing in the morning, I want to be alone!
