I am not sure if this is the plant that your asking about but I have found something similar.
Erica Carnea; Winter Heath. Description; An evergreen dwarf shrub, only 25cm high. Forms dense branches and provide extensive ground cover. Young thin branches are very flexible and angular;older branches become woody and dark brow.
LEAVES. The short leaves are needle shaped but soft and arranged in fours in a whorl. In winter they change colour from a dark green to a muddy green.
BLOOMS. The light to dark pink flowers are arranged close together in large numbers at the end of the branches, all facing the same direction. The petals grow into a deep cup shape.
FRUITS. The capsule fruits remain surrounded by petals .
Distribution. In chalky, loose and stony soil;in light coniferous woods and the foothills of the Alps.
