Because rain is nothing more than heavy condensation. The density of the water can never reach the degree where it can turn to a river because the weight ratio of the air to water will not allow it. The atmosphere cannot hold that kind of water density. Once the water in the atmosphere reaches a degree that surpasses the threshold it falls. The threshold is affected by temperature and elevation etc.

A cloud is made of small drops of water or ice crystals depending upon its height and coolness of the sorrounding air.Most rainfall begins either as snow crystals or other solid forms.After entering the warmer air below the cloud, these ice particles often melt and reach the ground as raindrops.The larger the cloud droplet, the better its chances of colliding with a giant droplet.Thus there are collisions between raindrops.Some collisions cause drops to coalesce, forming a large drop and some cause drops to break into smaller ones.As the sizes of drops are different,each drop falls at a different speed.Giant droplets fall rapidly.Thus drops keep on falling side by side and not in a continuous stream.Under these circumstances, pouring out as continuous stream like a river is not possible.

All rain is is the clouds falling from the atmosphere. Clouds is water condensing on pollution in the atmosphere. When there's a surplus of water vapor it gets too heavy for the atmosphere to hold it so it falls in supercooled cloud drops. then it forms into an ice particle, then it turns into an ice crystal, then it turns into a snowflake, then a raindrop.

The cohesive forces in water cause it to form round droplets. This is true of most if not all liquids. Note that in space water forms round globules even in large quantities. When the water is in contact with the ground the force of gravity pulling down and the resistance of the ground overcoming the cohesive forces and causing the drops to merge until you have a river. While the drops are in the air the force of gravity will pull them down, but until the meet the resistance of the ground there is nothing to overcome that cohesive force, so they stay round. Friction with the air stretches them out to the teardrop shape.

Because when the rain falls from the clouds it gets broken up by the wind which also shapes it into its drop like form.

Rain is formed from condensation rising from the ground and as it rises it sticks to dirt particles which in turn forms into dark rain clouds as we know them,,,so when the mass gets too heavy it falls in the drops they are stuck to...................or something like that !!!! I was doing ok then,,,but I lost the plot ......................................

it can not be , do you any thing about clouds and of what contains ? do you any thing about water which was vanished to be steam then to be clouds then get rain , so it can be heavy rain , but it can not be rivers, that is nature way , you can ask physics to answer you more specifically , but its easy to confirm it can not be

When ever water falls a long way, air resistance and the water's surface tension breaks it up into little balls (raindrops).
