I am personally thinking, that this is the MOST retarded US law ever made.
First of all US is one of the few countries that have this pathetic law, Second there is so much government money were wasted for arresting "underage" drinkers, cause there will be always someone who is 21, who will buy it. Next if you old enough to die for your country when you 17!!!! Why cant you have little buzz than? And by the time you would turn 21, you already would want to start settling and building family...and you will loose interest to alchohol

And in countries that either don't have a law or have less strict laws on drinking, drinking is both culturally acceptable and done in moderation. Unfortunately in the US it's a chicken and egg problem, which the law doesn't seem to be helping.

The concept was to allow people to legally drink when it was deemed that they had a maturity level appropriate to handle the responsibility. Unfortunately in this "bigger is better" society, binge drinking and drinking to get drunk are the norm, not the exception.

From personal experience, Europeans normally drink socially with an interest in a couple of drinks to relax and unwind. Americans drink specifically to get drunk, frequently alone, often as "self-medication", and commonly to show off how much they can drink.

I think the law should be repealed, if my fellow Americans can first learn the concepts of socially responsible alcohol consumption.

Another rant by someone that knows not of what they speak.
First, you can join the military at 17, but federal law doesn't allow under 18 to go to combat. Guess you didn't do any research on that fact did you?
Second, the drinking age used to be 18, but 18-20 year olds proved time and time again that they can't act like adults when they drink.....that's why the age was raised to 21

yup- pathetic.

should be 25 at least...
- wow-- look at everyone heading for the 'thumbs down' icon...

Science indicates that your brain does not finish growing until the early twenties...men later than women. Why screw it up before then ? People talk about fetal alcohol syndrome :
this is just a later stage of that.
And, since these people are old enough to drive, you compound that DUI/DWI thing as well.
As for the 'die at 17' thing...one does not correlate to the other- as a sailor, I got a drink in any port I was in, as long as I had the money.
Sorry- I don't agree.

I agree with you somewhat.....I agree that if you're old enough to go to war and fight for your country, you should be old enough to buy liquor. But, I think that you should "up" the age to serve your country to 21 rather than "lower" the drinking age.

I think drinking should b outlawed, and anybody caught making it should be shot on the spot.
On the other hand I think they should legalize pot.How many people die each year because of booze then how many die because of pot.
