According to statistics, almost 30% of California residents speak Spanish as their first language and hundreds of Mexicans are coming to California by the minute.

Considering this fact, will California become a Spanish-speaking state by the end of this century?
Do you think California will become a Mexican-dominating state and end up being a part of Mexico?

About 100 years ago, California was a Spanish speaking state. Not much has changed...more Anglo's moved in, many of the Spanish speaking population moved south and east - returned to Mexico, Spain, South America.

There has always been movement between Mexico and other Latin countries and California. It was theirs first.

No, I don't think California will cede and become a part of Mexico.

No, I don't think that California will become part of Mexico.

Now the spanish speaking part.....I'm against..and I live here.

The way I see it...I don't go to Mexico and demand everyone speak English (I know some tourists do...but it's rude as hell to be honest)...so why is it they can come into this country and demand everyone speak spanish? This is an english speaking country primarilly.....and even though 30% of this state's population is Mexican or from a spanish speaking country, doesn't mean we should give up English for them. Should Spanish be a requirement in schools out here to graduate as well as English....sure...I'd agree to that. However, to make it an official "spanish speaking" state to me would just be stupid. It's saying to us...don't honor your culture or ways, only be a part of ours. To me, you have to be able to honor all cultures...or it's not fair to anyone.

You are wrong if you think Spanish speakers are not learning English. They are, and they don't feel frustrated about it. If you want to learn a second language, Spanish is a handy one, especially here in California, but no one should feel forced to. Yes, you are looking at this from the wrong perspective. Spanish is a social, economic and cultural bonus. Not a penalty.

florida has the same problem. a few years ago politicians actually tried to make a law stating english should be the officially language of florida. most floridians said NO to the referendum since its really not an issue as this is the US.

probably more and more so, until it is at least 50 to 70% of the population, since if you want to do business in calif it is going to become more necessary to be bilingual in any goods or service industry
