Any would-be immigrants should be able to speak the language, have somebody as a sponsor who could provide temporary housing for them until they could afford to rent or buy on their own, and have sufficient means to support themselves until such times as they find a job for which they MUST already be qualified - to British standards, so that rules out back-street doctors (for example) from some unknown tribe (as an example) in an unknown country ! ! !

Zero tolerance until we can establish EXACTLY how many of them have come in illegally.

Then we need to ensure that we can, as a nation, afford to absorb those people ALREADY HERE. (The ones that the Home Office have 'LOST' and cannot put a figure on exactly how many ARE lost!). Is it 20,000? Is it 2 million? Who knows!?

Then we need to make sure that those people can have a decent standard of living without being frightened.

In the meantime, we overhaul the entire system with absolutely strict criteria for getting here. Knowing the language being one - they do this in Australia. Also, they should have some skill which we require. 5% of all immigrants can come here on 'special licence' from war torn countries and made to leave when the problems are over.

They must be exempt from claiming benefits and have no criminal convictions. Any tests that need to be undergone to make sure they are suitable must be self funded and they must be able to support themselves for at least a year.

Any immigrant caught illegally should be immediately microchipped and deported. This may help to stop re-entry and make them easier to find if they do get back in.

Hopefully, we will create an atmosphere that unless you apply properly, with all the right qualification procedures in place then you will not get in. We are TOO much of a soft touch and to let people in and then have them disappear without trace (which is what has just happened in the UK) in negligent in the extreme.

Sounds rough, but we HAVE to get a hold on this. How can it be right that as a tax paying nation, already stretched, we have to pay more and more to support these 'ILLEGALS'...'LAW BREAKERS'...whatever you want to call them?

Stop It, Sort it out.

I would operate it like other countries do. Controlled borders, citizen tests, being able to support yourself financially etc, exactly like the States, Australia and Canada - all very difficult countries to get into to.

Any illegal immigrants would be held in a holding centre - processed quickly and either given permission to remain or, returned to their country of origin. Border would be controlled very tightly so we would not see hundreds of people climbing over fences each night to get into the UK pretty much unchallenged.

We are a small island and barely have the rescoures, schools, health etc to sustain unlimited immigration which we currently have. We now have a situation where in some schools, English is taught as a SECOND language!

I am not interested in the colour of skin, religion or culture - this is not about that it is about knowing who you have in your country.

It has to be reduced dramatically, we are short of housing and our green belt is precious and disappearing fast. The health service is overstretched and the people who were born in the UK (who originate from many cultures) feel that immigrants get preferential treatment when it comes to health, housing and benefits.
I think we should be like Australia and only allow immigrants who can bring something to our society, a trade or skill for example. Mass immigration of unskilled is a strain on our resources.
The policy on immigration is dictated by the EU however and depressingly, is unlikely to change.

I could spend all day moaning about immergration but I have other things that need doing.

The government need to deport all immagrants that have entered this country over the last 20 years in order to return it back in to GREAT Britain.

What do I think of immergration, lets put it this way. I live in a two bedroom flat with my wife, my 11 year old son and my 8 year old daughter. My children share a room, my son is coming in to puberty and the council won't give us a three bed house. We can't afford to buy as we can only get 130k mortgage (show a three bed house for 130k).

There is a asian (i'm being nice) family who live a few doors down from me. 1 husband, 1 wife & 1 child.

YES THAT'S RIGHT 1 CHILD.

All living in a three bedroom house. How is that looking after your own. To get any where in this coutry now you have to be a member of the ethnic MAJORITY.

That's right we are the minority now.

I told you not to get me started. F**king immagrants. Shoot them all there destroying the country.

Oh, if I have upset anyone, TOUGH. The truth hurts.

I would introduce a points system the same as Australia and America but be more stringent because of our limited space, after all you can only get a pint in a pint glass. Our resources are much more limited than say for instance the united states.

I think it's not too much to ask for the immigrants to learn English before they can legally be considered members of this country. It's generally offensive for someone to refuse to speak to you in your language when they are in an English speaking country. They are taking advantage of our leniency (or what I call a lack of structure and law enforcement) and bringing down the value of the country itself.

If the country was full of immigrants who take the work positions of the native people I would be very selective.

i dont have a problem with immigration. as long as the immigrants learn the language of the country they are immigrating to and pay taxes like the other citizen and have a job.

Compared to the intake of immigration way back in the late 50's and 60's..its REALLY bulging now with more and more people...we cannot go on like this as its having a HUUGE impact on in all areas..housing, welfare, NHS, education to name but a few..but funnily enough,,,,our government dont see it that way and open their arms widely to accept more while i work out my guts in paying out in taxes......hmm..best not get myself in a rut on this topic..

Think its now time to CLOSE the gates...which i dont ever see happening...i dont mean to appear rude or anything..its a good thing too.. as it also helps the economy and in certain areas where people with certain skills are required, positions are filled but there's always 2 sides to a story.

I'VE been taught from my parents that, go and live abroad ONLY...

IFFF your going to be an asset to that country and NOT a burden ???????????????
