The people that live in the apartment above me and my roomate have several animals. Dogs, cats, who knows what else... all stuck in this tiny apartment. We found one of their cats in the heater duct even. Anyways, there are fleas all over our apartment now and I really doubt they came from myself or my roomate. What can I do about this? It shouldn't be something that WE should have to deal with. We don't have any pets, so why in the WORLD should we have fleas!!!!!??

ouch! tis not easy at all as fleas can and will lay eggs - in the hard-to-reach dirt in crevices under the floor and in the very corners of the room, under doorsills and so on, maybe you should not only vacuum really well, but also treat these places with some chemical stuff or at least buy a little bottle of mint or eucalypt or clove or teetrea essential oil (the 100%concentrated stuff, that is to be used in tiny amounts in baths or aromatic lamps, etc) mix a good dose of it with alcohol (simply vodka) and spray these areas with the bottle you spray your houseplants with, then leave the windows closed while you are out fot the day. When you come back then ventilate really well to get the pungent air out. this will thoroughly fumigate your apartment, while it is more or less non-toxic solution that makes your place less favourable living place for the fleas- they will go elsewhere. Consider reporting your neighbors anonymously for poor treatment of animals if you think the situation is getting out of control.

Good tip: after bath, lie naked on bed and catch the coming fleas-attracted to the steaming hot flesh of yours-one by one

OH my gosh! I SERIOUSLY have this same problem!! I live on the first floor apt. and the people ABOVE me have a dog, cat, ferret and I'm not sure what else, anyway I when I first moved in about 3 months ago 1 flea... ok not that bad I just killed it and went on NOW 3 months later DAILY I am killing 2-5 fleas that are on my skin (arms, legs...) So I don't know what to do I just moved in (and I have NEW carpet) NO pets at all never had any. I do have 2 kids ages 3 and 6 and I wonder if the fleas could be harmful to them and me. I am calling my apts TODAY since I haven't done so yet and I am going to see IF they will have someone exterminate the apt ABOVE us as well as my own apt. The first step is calling the Apt. landlord and the second is going to Walmart to get some flea spray (for now) and maybe some carpet deodorizer that has flea killer or something in it thats safe around kids and I'll vacuum up as much as I can. I already vacuum 1-2 times a day!!!

Unless you don't have any pets yourself, it will be difficult to prove the source of the fleas. Otherwise, contact the landlord and he should hold the tenants above you accountable. Your apt. and theirs, likely several others, will need to be bombed for fleas. If fleas have made it to your apt. it soounds like a professional exterminator will be required. Just bombing your apt. won't do the trick if the tenants above you don't bomb as well. Good luck.

Call your rental office. They can investigate your neighbors and will usually force them to remove all but 2 pets, and can also get an exterminator to treat the entire building for fleas.

You should use a mixture of boric acid and salt. Boric acid acts as a desiccant and dries out the exoskeleton of the flea, but does not have any side effect on human beings or animals. Check this out http://pests.in/fleas.html
