...the original and uncut Japanese version of "War of the Gargantuas" is the direct sequel to the similarly uncut version of "Frankenstein Conquers the World"; both films, when they were acquired for distribution in the U.S., were drastically cut and re-edited, so that they pretty much played as separate films...
...in the original Japanese version of "Frankenstein...", there was a final battle at the end of the film, between the giant creature, and a giant octopus (...unlike the battle between the Green Gargantua and the octopus, at the beginning of "War...", this battle was more land-based, and this final fight was one of the scenes that was removed in the U.S. version of "Frankenstein..."); in the original Japanese version of "War...", it was explained that during the final octopus battle of "Frankenstein...", the giant creature lost a piece of living flesh, which was washed away into the ocean. That piece of flesh supposedly fed off plankton, and grew at an alarming rate, exhibiting the extraordinary growth traits of the original Frankenstein creature; this flesh became the Green Gargantua. All of this, of course, supposedly happens in between both films...
...the Brown Gargantua, we already know, was originally a creature found in the snowy mountains, and started out the size of a small child, as seen in flashback footage in "War..."
...in case you didn't know, Media Blasters recently released "Frankenstein Conquers the World" on DVD; it contains both the U.S. and Japanese cuts of the film (...including the famed final octopus battle scene); "War of the Gargantuas" is slated to be released through Classic Media, before the end of the year. As with the other films released by Classic Media (...and they HAVE put out some pretty impressive packages), the DVD will contain both the original Japanese version, and the U.S. version...
...hope this helps you out!!!
