Me and a couple of friends are planning on taking a trip to europe for about 2 weeks, do you think 3 thousand dollars would be enough for each person, including roundtrip ticket, food, eurail pass, shelter, and pub money? And what are hostels like? Is it like community showers, and everyone in the same room?

It depends a lot on the price of your ticket, as they are sold from $600 (New York to London if you are lucky) to $2000 and more for less common connections and more for extra luxe.
For a stay in Europe, an average of $100 per person per day minimum if you travel hostels, cook your own meals, do not go out for drinks and spend little on sightseeing and travel.
For $200 per person per day you will have enough to eat out, go far a drink if you keep it moderate and see the famous sights from within as well as just stare up to it.

Eastern Europe is cheaper, London, Paris, Scandinavia and Switzerland are known for being the most expensive.

Whether a rail pass is best for you depends on how much you would be in the train and how often you would choose a fast train that costs a heafty surcharge.
See this site:

You can also contemplate using the bus:

A hostel is a hotel that has several beds per room, you book a bed rather than a room.
You have hostels with en-suite bathrooms, and with just a few showers in the hall. I have been in only one hostel that had big open shower rooms (no cubicles) in 25 years of hostel use, and I have been in many. So it is rather unlikely that you get one of those.
The dorms have 3 to many beds to a room, but 6 or 8 is rather standard. (If they have different numbers per room you can mostly choose and pay for less beds.) Traveling with a group you might be able to book whole rooms for your group.

Buy a good guidebook, I prefer Lonely Planet, to find where to go, where to sleep, eat and go for a drink, as well as museums and sights with opening times, all with prices that were right at the time the book went to print.
It also tells you about travel to and within the country/town you plan to go.
Take the guide that covers all of the area you want to travel in one (or two) edition.
