I wasn't a fan of Blur but I think one of their members joining the hideously appalling group 'the gorillaz' was still a huge career dive. From a half-decent, tolerable group to one that ranks with Rihanna, 50 cent and the pussycat dolls.

Michael Jackson. When I was a youngster he was the biggest act on the planet and the hype surrounding his albums, singles, videos and concerts was massive. Now, he's a walking freak show who doesn't even have a recording contract.

Other contenders:

Whitney Houston. Again, like Michael Jackson she was one of the most successful solo artists around. A few years ago she was supposed to perform at the Oscars and missed eight (yes, eight) flights to Los Angeles.

Britney Spears has the potential to fall into this category as well unless she manages to get thiings back on track.

1. Micheal Jackson, whose career ended when he smashes a car window, grabs his crotch and screams in a music video. He completely changed after that and became endless tabloid fodder.

2. Axel Rose, from a guy that could have been THE MAN of the 90s to rarely showing up for concerts, having really bad plastic surgery or botox injections and spending so much time on making one CD (Chinese Democracy) that he would be too old to release it by the time it gets finished, if it ever does get finished. He also redid the lineup for Guns and Roses yet I don't think he actually bothered playing with the new lineup either.

I will resist the urge to talk about Buddy Holly, Otis Redding and Lynard Skynard. (Air crashes !!)

I personally think the biggest come down was Marc Bolan going from the megastar of glam-rock to presenting a children's program on the TV. I have a feeling that only his death in a car accident prevented a further embarrassing descent of his career.

Woah JohnA - Bolan's TV show as the most fabulous surreal event of the 70s - I used to rush home to watch it after school. It was brilliantly subversive to have someone like him on kids' telly.
As for come downs - got to be Gary Glitter hasn't it?

I am going with Gary Glitter too. Manly Rock and Roller to shacking up with 10 year old Thai girls...that is pretty low.

Terence Trent Darby's second album. That was funny if you remember that far back.
Also Bjork's assault on that reporter at the airport will always be legendary.
