I'm going to assume you are a fan of RPGs, since you enjoy Final Fantasy. I'll list 2 of my fave RPGs for the PS2, with an IGN link with reviews for each so you can check it for yourself.

Dragon Quest 8 - Journey of the Cursed King
This game is made by Square-Enix (Final Fantasy creators) and Level-5. It is a turn-based RPG with pretty cel-shaded graphics, likable characters, an interesting and sometimes humorous storyline, the ability to invent different weapons, armor, and items using an "alchemy pot", and a ton of gameplay and extras. With 2 different endings, and a set of "Dragovian Trials" at the end, there is a ton of fun to be had with this game. This is one of my absolute favorite games, I still play it every now and then. Here is the IGN link (they rated it a 9/10):

Dark Cloud 2 (called Dark Chronicle outside of the USA)
DC2 is an action RPG created by Level-5. This game has 2 main characters, each with an interesting background. You can invent different items and weapons using a photography system, and as your weapons level up you can actually watch them evolve. You also get a "ride-pod" with is like a robot with wheels, and all kinds of mountable weapons. Also, there is "monster transformation", which allows you to change into several different monsters to fight or obtain important information. There are loads of minigames like fishing and spheda (which is like golf), and you also get to build towns. Here is the IGN link (they gave it a 9/10):

Enjoy! These are both terrific games.

If you like leveling up and well, role-playing, Disgaea 2 is a recommended game from me.Unlike the past game,Laharl isn't the star in this..and of course, Etna wouldn't be in the start but would be with you if you advance..Well..if adventure is your thing, Ratchet and Clank is ok, and maybe Castlevania:Curse of Darkness[yeah, it has a version for PS2..]..well, get on to your feet and start trying this games!
