Wife was born and raised here, I have been here most of my life. We have raised six kids here and now have eight grandkids living here also.
Vegas is what you make of it. We love it here and after traveling most of this country we would never think about leaving Vegas for anywhere else.
There are jobs for anyone that really wants one. There is no State income tax. The property taxes are low compared to many other places. Housing cost has gone up but still much cheaper than many areas of the country.
Schools are not the best, many place the schools when the fact is the blame should be laid on the parents. Many parents here get caught in the traps of Vegas and forget to be responsible for their own kids. Some of our kids have done well in the schools here, some have not. Just how it is here and anywhere else.
Many people from CA. move here to get away from CA then try to make Vegas like CA. Never figured that one out yet.
Over all it can be a great city or it can be the death of you. That all depends on you and you alone. If you have a good work ethic and don't think these casinos are going to give you free money then you should do well here. If you are looking for an easy way out in life then Vegas is not the place for you.

The weather is great. Sure it gets hot but you learn to live with it. Very little rain and the sun shines 365 days a year even when it rains. Some part of the valley has sunshine at least most of the day. Driving is terrible here but that is the only way to get around. Look for the outer areas away from the strip and definitely away from downtown. I live in the SW part of the valley and it is great. All new and better class of people.
Neighbors are not friendly here at all. They are nice but not sociable like most people are everywhere else. They come home from work on go into their house and that's it. They don't use their yards and every yard has a brick wall around it. That was the hardest thing to get use to.
Housing can be expensive but everything else I found is the same or cheaper than everywhere else. NO state or city income tax so that makes the difference in the higher housing. Get use to HOA as just about all homes are in a development and you have to pay the fees though not that expensive.
There is good and bad no matter where you live. Figure what your needs are and go for it. If you love to gamble then I would suggest you not come here because you can gamble everywhere even in the 7/11. You could go through your money pretty quick. If you have good self control then it is a pretty good place to live.

I only live in Las Vegas because my husband is in the military. It is not the greatest place to raise children and the school system sucks. There is a lot to do as far as entertainment. The people are not very friendly and they do not know how to drive(especially in inclimate weather). There will always be someone asking for money everywhere you go. There are also a lot of illegals here. Choose carefully where you live.

My spouse lived in Las Vegas from 1985 to 1992. I lived there from 1989 to 1992. We "pass to" approximately as quickly as each 2-3 years. We the two sense city has grown way too quickly. The streets are very congested, the smog is destructive and the style of illegals are overloading the college equipment. Nevada is around 40 8 so some distance as high quality of faculties and that's because of the even worse high quality of the Las Vegas faculties. My spouse and that i complete up shifting to a smaller city. suited now Las Vegas is the superb place to purchase a house, in particular because of the fact it has the optimal own loan default and repossession fee in the country! you ought to probable %. up something notably high-quality at a sensible cost. in basic terms determine you get into an upscale community with stable CC&Rs and a property vendors affiliation so your pals can not trash their property around the corner to yours!

It was loud, traffic sucked, it was noisy, there were tons of people around at ALL times of the day and night.. I could eat at ALL times of the day and night,. I never had to worry about a store closing that I could n't find another one open, no matter the time..
I loved it to death and would do almost anything to move back.

For a holiday, it should be fine. But living wise, your kids can get spoiled. There are casinoes everywhere. Women giving out cards for call girl. Sexual billboards openly advertised.
