I am 34 weeks preggo right now. i have been reading a lot on pregnancy and going to classes preparing my self for the big day. i've read a lot on braxton hicks contractions but never read that a sign could be sharp stabbing pains in the cervix. and usually everything i read says b.h. contractions don't usually hurt. whatever this is definately hurts! i have had them the past 2-4 days. i get the pains off and on for about a 1 min - 1 1/2. so its not real contractions. if i am walking around when it hits i almost can't move because they hurt so bad. my doc usually starts pelvic exams for progress after week 36. if i tell her what i am feeling could she start pelvics earlier? i have an appointment tuesday. so is this a sign my cervix is thinning early? anyone else had these or know what i might be feeling?

Hi im a nursing assistant (not nurse) at Maternity ward in my local hospital so i picked up a few things.

do these pains go away when you drink water? rest?
do they happen after sex?

contractions can happen if your dehydrated, have an urinary tract infection (thats why everyone needs to drink their 8 glasses) or after sex.

drink water, rest a little more if your active, and refrain from sex for a day or two.but just to be sure call your doc or go to your ER. they can run a couple of tests to see if you have an infection or if your going into preterm labor.

ps i am also a mom of a 3yr girl and 1 1/2 boy. I had an infection w/ pains like you desribed plus doc told me it could be pelvic area opening up

good luck and hope you have a healthy baby

That feeling is probably your baby bouncing there head off of your cervix - its can be very uncomfortable - at your next Dr appointment ask to be checked for dilation..but no need to go running off to the hospital unless you are having contractions that are so strong you cannot walk through them or your water has broken.

If you lay down on your left side with a pillow between your thighs the baby should move off of your cervix

Good luck

i have experienced this with all 3 of my children, feels like scraping with sharp end of a nail on your cervix???

it is pressure. i know it doesnt seem the 2 add up... but i have talked to several different doc/nurses, & they assure me that is it, & i have never had complications, so you should be just fine... i dont think it does anything as far as progression of the labor (like thinning of your cervix or productive contractions) its just PRESSURE!... =) hope you feel better soon~ i feel your pain! (im past due!)

The pelvic soreness feels like SPD to me. i might definately get it checked, reason it may worsen, have self belief it or no longer! in spite of if i've got in no way had it heavily, I also have a chum who ended up in a wheelchair for the final 2 months of her being pregnant and ended up being prompted at 38 weeks because of the fact the soreness grew to become into so severe! The surgeon must be waiting to grant you a help band and a few workouts to do. I additionally chanced on that swimming helped me, yet yours sounds plenty worse than mine grew to become into! protecting water is conventional, merely drink greater water (unusual because it sounds) and walk plenty. If it spreads on your face then it must be pre eclampsia notwithstanding it is not going. desire that helps Gen
