Groucho was good and he always made me laugh, not only with the 1 liners but the ad libbing. I also thought Jack Benny and George Burns were funny,of course George was funny because he was a straight man to Gracie, the lovable kook.

Groucho was great, but I myself thought Johnny Carson was the best I can remember at ad libs and one-liners.

There was one facet of Groucho's life which was not general knowledge. I learned of it when I attended a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore" in Los Angeles. On the bottom of the credits in the playbill was the following:
"Entire production under the personal technical supervision of Mister Julius Marx of Beverly Hills".
Groucho was one of the leading experts on Gilbert and Sullivan in the US. A true "Savoyard". After that I began to see the influence of Gilbert and Sullivan in his work. Particularly the "Captain Spaulding" number which served as the theme song for his later show "You Bet Your Life".

Groucho was great, I also liked Charlie Weaver, Paul Lynd, George Gobel. Did you ever watch Hollywood Squares, I used to die laughing at the answers they blurted out.

Oh wasn't Groucho the absolute best? That darned chicken would fall down when someone said the " magic word". I never missed his show. I think we all miss those shows don't you?
* note...oh....I think it WAS a duck and not a chicken. Right?

My favourite Marx movie is 'the big store' followed closely by 'night at the opera' I used to have both on video but have lost them over the years.
The Marx brothers were funny men but they were also amazingly talented. Harpo's skill with musical instruments is a joy to behold.
'Go west' was also a scream

good morning teal and happy birthday slk !!
don't remember which of the marx brothers it was that was on the lucy show, but i absolutely loved it. i'm thinking it was harpo because he didn't speak. absolutely roflmao just thinking about it. i think lucille ball was the greatest comedienne of her time - followed closely by carol burnett
used to love both of their shows -
another one of my favorites was george burns and gracie allen - don't think he would have been near as funny without her
