I think it must be in his contract that he gets a break. I don't think it is becasue of Ron they seem to get along fine.

Pat Hughes has a clause in his contract, that he can take a break during the game, so he leaves the game during the same inning. Starting this season, he got a full inning break, in years prior to this year, he only had a half inning break, and Andy Masur and now Corey Purvocs fills in for him during his break. Why he gets a break, I don't know. Nobody elese in the Chicago Cubs broadcast team, gets a break, not even Len & Bob, plus if they did, who would fill in for them, they don't have somebody with them for each game like Pat & Ron do. He might get something to eat, or use the bathroom. Last year during a game, it was when Ron Santo was talking to Len & Bob on the TV's side, the camera got a look into the booth, and you saw Andy Masur in all by himself, during play-by-play, and Pat Hughes in the back with his feet up. But I don't think that it is because to get away from Ron Santo for a while, he does this no matter if Ron's in the booth or not.

I doubt that he leaves because of Ron.
Who knows. Probably only him.
