Was Penn State really "stunned"? How much of a surprise could it have been?

One of the New York City sports columnists loves to make this point, and he's right.

When a ranked team loses to an unranked team, some people love to call it an upset or use words like stunned.

But being realistic, Michigan probably is a pretty decent team despite the early losses. The Wolverines were at home. I don't know what the point spread was, but it probably was pretty close. But guys who don't know sports -- and the Fox News scroll writer may qualify -- sees a ranked team loses and calls it an upset. Michigan's track record against Penn State really doesn't come into play, because I'd bet the writer didn't know about it.

Now -- Louisville was a 36 1/2 point favorite against winless Syracuse, and was playing at home. Syracuse 38, Louisville 35. Now that's a stunning result.

It was actually like their 11th or 12th loss against michigan, they should have done better.
