On TV and in movies, I noticed they censor nudity and get all offended about it (nipplegate, etc.) but when violence is shown, we accept it. Nudity is natural in my opinion and it is a beautiful thing while violence is the ugly in our society, so why are we offended by what's natural? What do you see as more offending and why?

Erica - My point of view is not sexist at all, what im saying is what is worse. violence causes war, death, and harm btw and nudity, well everyone has a body and gets naked and its normal.

violence by far

the human body is something that is beautiful and natural.....granted, we have perverted it, but as a baby, you see nudity everytime you get hungry

There is nothing wrong with nudity... its the situation that accompanies the nudity in most movies and TVs... I mean do kids need to see people having sex? No.....However, nor do I think that kids or anyone for that matter needs to be desensitized by excessive violence... I think most people would agree that both need to be sensor for children's sake..... I don't agree with promiscuity nor do I agree with violence toward people..... now the violence in something like lord of the rings is slightly different... morals/value can be found in some instances that require fighting for the right cause... in this case I don't have a problem with it.... but it really all depends on the situation.....take titanic for example.... I was not offended at all by the nude painting.... it was the sex scene, with no nudity, that I would have cause me not to let children watch it. .... anyways thats how I feel about this matter :)

Justin, I have to agree with you 100% - violence is the pits - but I grew up on westerns and violent cartoons and loved it- so ... idk??

Many years ago (about 30 or so) the first nude beaches started to become popular in Sydney (where I lived). I had to come to turns with the nudity issue.

I believed in freedom and wanted to be able to swim nude (sorry kids if you're reading this) but was also trained to think there was tittilation and voyeuristic excitement to be had from the human body. The bottom line is, I wasn't as cool as I acted.

It is easy for those who provide us with 'entertainment' to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

In the best of all possible worlds we would see each other as just people - we would look for what is inside each of us not at our naked bodies - and I know that is what you are alluding to - BUT the reality may be that at the moment, as a society, we are not that grown up.

I don't understand why either is a big deal. The reason tv is censored is because of children. If the parents don't want their children to watch something then they should use the tv ratings and V-chip to block it. I think we are so hypocritical in our culture with nudity. A woman's nipple is always blurred while a male's isn't. It is the same exact thing. When on a show like Dr. 90210, a woman is having trans gender surgery and having her breasts reduced to look like a man, they will blur the nipple before surgery but after the surgery they won't blur the same nipple because it is now a male breast. Makes no sense to me. Parents just need to get more involved in what their children are watching b/c I'm getting tired of the FCC.

Dude, it's not what's worse....it's why. Violence and nudity can be used tastefully to create a great work of art. it's when violence or nudity crosses its bounds and therefore becomes shocking, vulgar, or extreme that it is in poor taste.

Oscar Wild wrote an essay about this subject. His thoughts were that to many artists, be it writers, painters, or performers, are riding the back of vulgarity and shocking content in order to dupe people into thinking their art is powerful when in fact it is just...simply...vulgar.

Vulgarity has the ability to shock, horrify, and bring up strong types of emotions and folks then proceed to praise the artist for their profound work, but really it was just a cheep thrill and they get the praise because they had the guts, or lack of character, to do it.

Therefore the use of sex/nudity and violence is 1)cheep, 2)kinda just, plain, simply, scummy and 3) a filler when content is lacking.

Violence is worse, you can't learn nudity, but violence can have a lasting impression on some people. As you said, the body is natural. everybody has one.

Justin you have hit the nail on the head. People have vested interest in both, violence and nudity. It brings in the moolah to votaries of both.Anybody who speaks against violence/nudity is hitting at their purse.
Nudity without vulgarity is acceptable to me but, violence is abhorrable by all means. It cannot be accepted at any cost.

violence is way worse.. in other countries in france and places like that they rather have there children see nudity in movies than violence becuz there nudity is appreciated as art not in sex and stuff.. I agree nudity is just our body but we dont have cloth covering it. its nothing we should be ashamed of. Violence on the other hnd is aufull were just showing people a way to act.

Yeah, I see your point, but people think that nudity isn't right because, well... its just the way we think. Sorry I'm not explaining this very well. We just don't see naked people walking the streets everyday. Violence is more common, we see violence everyday in our lives.

I personally love being offended. I enjoy movies with gratuitious nudity/gore. But I suppose violence is worse...it gives the kids nightmares.
