I would like to make a dog house for my chihuahua that will be used rarely as he is a tiny inside dog but it still needs to be comfortable and roomy for him. He loves the outdoors!

BUT there are big dogs in the neighborhood so I want the dog house to have a sort of tunnel built in the front to that will allow him to run in for shelter and no big dogs to follow him in. I'm guessing I would have to have more ventilation to compensate for the tunnel but it will be a necessity.

I can build and have the use of (hubby's) tools but I can't do anything without plans. I can't seem to find anything using google. Can anyone help with some puppy house plans?

An explanation here should suffice? OR a trip to a vendor who sells any style dog house.

It can be as simple as a wooden box. Determine a size you want; cut a base/floor to size of exterior ply 3/4. Using 2 x 2' create the frame/uprights; make the door end higher than the back wall, allowing a single sloped roof; cut the sides and end to that slope and the bottom floor measurements; and I have to say a door small enough for the dog, but too small for any other dog should suffice. This sounds like a bird house type analogy. Small hole in the house/ small birds can get in and out/ but not larger birds.

The average dog has the IQ of a 2 year old--a pup is even younger. What happens when you scream at a two year old? Most of the time, they have no idea what they did wrong. Limit him to a single room--the bathroom or kitchen work well since they tiles will deflect the pee--and put newspaper out for him. Chances are, he'll forget the paper and pee on the floor. Put paper on the floor where he peed to soak it up but don't remove it just yet. Walk away, and without you there to distract him, he'll eventually go over and sniff the paper. Come back, maybe a half hour later and put down fresh paper where he peed before. He'll most likely miss it again, but just keep repeating the above and he'll eventually start to associate the paper with pee and start looking for the paper. If you even catch him in the act, don't disturb him by petting him, but tell him he's a good boy and praise after he's done. After he's mastered how to use the paper, remove it all together. Since he's begun to look for the paper to pee, he'll try to hold it, but like a baby, he can only due so for so long. Take him outside FREQUENTLY, meaning, every hour or so. Outside, have newspaper set out on the grass (rocks and bricks work great on windy days) and show him to it. Leave him alone, let him sniff--he's got this. When he pees, don't just stroke him and say good boy; act as if you've just hit the lottery. The crazier to feel the more excited he'll be and peeing outside becomes the greatest thing since peanut butter. Eventually, you can remove the paper rom the equation, all together. This process can take week, months, depending on how well *you* stick to it. Know this now: its never the dog's fault. He's simply following your lead, and if you won't teach him, he'll never learn. EDIT: Territorial marking was never a problem with my males when they were unaltered because I'm a strong enough leader that when I say no it means no. The easiest and actually safest (for both you and your dog) and stop this isto get him neutered. Otherwise, the likelyhood of him running away or becoming agressive are very high. There are enough pups in shelters that need homes.
