There is a legitimate concern. The "closing the border" rhetoric is nonsense. But our border is not secure (there's a difference).

The legitimate issue is that an unsecured border is open to ANYONE who wants to sneak in. There's little to stop a would-be terrorist (or group) from slipping into Mexico and then across our border.

And--in the last 6 years Bush andthe GOP--for all their rhetoric--have done NOTHING to make that border more secure. It could be jsut as open to people coming and going for legitimate reasons--but secure against infiltration. That, however, takes real policy and implementation of that policy. They've been strong on politiclal slogans--not on performance.

It has little to do with terrorism. As people should realize by now, if terrorists really wanted into this country after 9/11, they woudl have absolutely no problem getting themselves over the border from Canada or Mexico, yet they haven't done a thing. When they haven't done it up till now, what would be the point of doing it later?

Arabs, mexicans, how are WASPs supposed to tell the difference? Besides, arab terrorists could easily disguise themselves as wetbacks, and we would be none the wiser until a few more skyscrapers lay in smoldering ruins.

With 2,000 miles of what is basically unsecured border, the US-Mexico border is the perfect place for terrorists to enter the United States. Reporting indicates that Islamic extremists and Mexican drug cartels have joined forces to smuggle weapons and terrorists into the country. Texas director of Homeland Security officially disclosed that terrorists with ties to Hezbollah, Hamas and al-Qaida have been arrested crossing into the states through Mexico. In August 07, a DEA report laid out how Islamic terrorists and violent Mexican drug cartels have teamed up to successfully penetrate the US, as well as finance terror networks in the Middle East.

The report said that the Mexican cartels and terrorists have taken advantage of a porous border and lack of intelligence sharing among US agencies. It concluded that any future September 11th type of event in the country may be facilitated by drug traffickers operating on both sides of the US-Mexico border.

I love how no one has said anything about how extremely ignorant and racist your question is. There are terrorists of every ethnicity, not just Arabs!

Open border, and multiple arrests already of Islamic people using the border to enter the country.

Read the paper, watch the news.
You haven't been hearing enough.

The terrorists use Mexico and Canada as points to get into the USA as it is quite easy to sneak across the borders from mexico and Canada but I think the borders must be watched to keep out those that want to do harm to the west and people that want to work in the USA should cross the border legally and those that get caught that are illegal should get sent back.
