I live in Las Vegas and when listening to the old timers who lived here the longest all agree on the same thing:

The place was sure better when the mob ran things.

They complain about how the crime went up through the roof, how bad things are and everything in general since the corporations and US goverment took over.

Isn't interesting to hear that the Mafia actually was able to run a city goverment better then our actual goverment? Isn't rather sad?

I personally think it is because of the population boom and it being no longer a small town.

I also did not live here when that was the fact, so I really do not care about back then nor about the mafia. I care about the now.

The Mafia! Personally I wouldn't know. My thought is people knew you didn't screw with the mafia. Their punishment was swift & deadly. Was it right, hell no, but I guess that's the way it was. Our law inforcement, regardless of ALL the money being thrown at it doesn't work............ Politics is inbred into it. Car dealers, being golfing partners of the mayor & police chief get the contract to supply crusiers for the police department. Usually top of the line models with all the extras. The more extras, the more profit. In our town the police drive large model, top of the line NEW fords. The sheriff's department drives new chevy astros with front & rear A/C, disc players, build in running boards, etc. All the goodies. The extras cost money, taxpayers money. A $5,000 light bar across the top with lights that do everything imaginable.
Then there are the lawyers, the police make arrest, the lawyers get them off. The same people commit crime after crime. I really don't know what a trip to the court cost but it has to be expensive. I don't know a poor lawyer or judge! All
this is paid for with taxpayer money , your money. Crime is still rampart. Is it working?????????????????

I've heard this theory before, but about other cities where the Mafia was very evident. Maybe the two old timers were once mob guys and were helping to keep order in Vegas. I can see how they wouldn't like changes that would affect their income.

Well, you're not looking at the whole picture. The reason crime has gone up is because things are so good. That's how it works. If you were to look at the statistics, most crimes in Las Vegas are committed by people passing through. Times in Las Vegas are better now than they ever have. Look at the price of property.

A lot of people said the same about Saddam.
Things are always easier when your rights were held onto by a thug, who is in charge of making sure that only HE gets to do illegal things, and no one else.

Great crowd you support.
Sorry, freedom comes with certain consequences.

Dictatorships, like socialism, the Mafia, like Saddam, make peace by running out or killing those who dissent.

What a world you want!
