I believe appropriateness really goes out the window at that point. You should do whatever it takes to escape.
As for the specific method you mentioned, keep in mind the possibility that your hands may be restrained or any other number of factors could come into play, so it is best to have a number of options available (and hopefully prevent the situation from even getting to that point.)
It sounds like you are trying to learn self defense by yourself, which is great but you may also want to consider taking an actual course in self defense. They are sometimes offered free or at low cost by various groups, or you may be able to ask a martial arts instructor for some basics.

It's the most guaranteed way to hurt a guy. A knee strike or a punch could miss.
Another good target is the wind pipe in the throat. It crushes easier than a soda can.
The only problem with these 2 attacks is you can't really practice them without SERIOUSLY harming your practice partner, so classes tend not to teach them much. But if you ever need to save your life, grab either target and squeeze for all you're worth.

Girl if he tries to rape you I think you need to do more than that. If I were you I would cut them of and hand them to him. What goes through a guys head when he tries to rape a girl....NOTHING..So dont let anything go through yours and do anything you feel would be punishment enough. I personally think he still deserves worse then that ...but hey just remember do something that will leave him in pain long enough for you to escape. Then just run and get help ...* Also make sure the bastard goes to jail .

i think so but that wouldn't be what im grabbing im gonna be grabbing anything scatchin hitting bitting doing w/e to get out of a rape attempt i don't think there is right or wrong way when it comes to that

Anything is appropriate as long as you are able to get away from the rapest. I would do whatever it takes. And bring as much pain to that person as possible. Try doing that to his balls and kicking him or bite him and get up as fast as you can. Try punching them also. Basically Im trying to say to do whatever you can to hurt them so that you can get away. I say who cares? If someone is attempting to rape you, who cares what is appropriate or not? Saving your life is far more important!

Uh...YEAH! If he's trying to harm you then give it anything you've got. Don't have sympathy for the bastard. In that sort of situation, it doesn't matter if it's appropriate or not...you've got to do something.
