Given that the term "Viking" derives from a Swedish word, the true 'Vikings' must have hailed from what is now Sweden. On the other hand, the Norsemen from Norway, Finland and Denmark might take umbrage at that.

First, you have to define what you mean by 'Viking', then narrow down the time period of interest. After the Rus settled on the Russian steppes, they were no longer called Vikings. After the Normans settled in France, they were no longer called Vikings. I suppose you're going to have to hit the books to do your own homework tonight, because the answer is far too complicated for the dolts that are going to try to help you on this site. 'Viking' is not a term the folks in question used to describe themselves. It's like calling a Cayuga an Iroquois. There may be some small validity, but it just doesn't fit.

Where Do Vikings Come From

Vikings came from Norway; the word Viking comes from Scandinavia. They lived on spread out villages on the coast, so they probably covered more coast line than just Norway.
The Vikings went south to Europe: they established themselves in Scandinavia and Denmark (Danish Vikings attacked London and other European cities).

It's prett neat to see how far they went and what they did:

650--vikings attack using longships

Russia-- (825) Vikings-called the Rus- invaded Russia for trade, rather than pillaging. They developed the the groundwork for the new nation.

Ireland--(831) Vikings capture Dublin, set up kingdom in Ireland

Britain --(866) Danish Vikes take attack York

Ever heard of London Bridges Falling Down? that is about when the vikings tore it down when London wouldn't pay duties/let the Norse use the river.

Normandy-- (911) Rello the Viking tore through France so fast, they gave him a huge peace of land to make him leave them alone.

Iceland--(930) three Viking chieftans set up commonwealth of Iceland

Greenland--(981) eric the red goes to Greenland after banished from Iceland

America (1000) Ericsson found wine in Canada

After 1014, the vikings start to lose and they're pretty much done for.
Between 800 to 1000, the Vikings gt down to Rome; instead of attacking the Roman empire, they set up trade. They set up shop in Sicily and converted to Christianity. In Constantinople (Itsanbul), it was cool to have viking body gaurds.

Mostly from Scandinavia but few people know that the Normans from Northern France were the descendants of Vikings who invaded that area many years before.
Therefore you can say that the last time England was successfully invaded was by the Norman Vikings.

The Vikings came from Scandinavia...Includes Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
During their "rovings", they went as far south as Africa and as far east as the Black Sea. And, as far west as Greenland, Iceland, and North America. Of course, they did not just journey by sea; they also marched overland.
They liked to attack at dawn, coming from the east, so that the sun would be in the eyes of those they were attacking.

They came from more than one country, from the area we know as Scandinavia, but mostly from current Norway and Denmark.
