PI (the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle) is only approximately equal to 22/7, and is in fact irrational, which means it cannot be expressed exactly in the form a/b, where a and b are integers. However, 22/7 is a sufficiently good approximation most of the time.

Of any size circle, It's a ratio of the Diameter of a circle to its Circumference.

e.g. if a circle has a radius of 1cm its Diameter is 2cm. Circumference is 3.142 x 2 = 6.284cm
π = Circumference ÷ Diameter

From the above example = 6.284 ÷ 2 = 3.142 = π
