Jessi, the problem here is that none of us can see your fish. "White spots" sould be a parasite, or it could be his normal coloring. If this is ich, it'll look like raised white dots - like someone sprinkled sugar or salt on him. Here's a photo of what ich looks like: http://www.fishtankguy.com/images/ICH1.jpg although that fish has a pretty advanced case.

If this is "fuzzy" the problem is more likely to be Columnaris (a bacterial disease) or what's called body fungus - these would need different medications, so you would need to know which he had. If this was Columnaris, the "fuzz" will be matted together so it's hard to see individual strands. The infection would aslo tend to have a circular outline. If it was body fungus (which rarely attacks healthy fish) it would be irregular in shape, but you should be able to see each strand separately.

If your fish is swimming and eating normally, it may just be part of the normal color. Bettas that have white on their faces have been known as "piebalds".

If you could take a phot of this and post it with your question, maybe we would have a better idea of how to help you. If you can get a photo, but don't know how to post it to the web, email me at copperhead_1959@yahoo.com and I can help you do this.

yeah it sounds like ick. change some of the water. but be careful not to stress him more, because ick comes from a fish getting to stressed. Beta fish usually can live through anything though, i had a fish that when i moved up to college i forgot about him in my car and when i came back i touched the water and it actually burnt me, but the beta lived! and then i was cleaning my sink but i wanted to clean my beta's bowl before i finished it (stupid i know) and i thought that i could do a change without him jumping out into the sink, but of course he jumped into the chemicals. And then he got bloated and i fed him peas because i heard that helps when they bloat, and he lived again. He actually lived for another year (he lived 3 years) after all of that stuff happened! Like i said, beta's usually won't die very easy.
You can always go to a pet store, or walmart and get some "ick clear" and just add a very little amount in his bowl. But ick spreds a lot, so change the water frequently while he has it. Good luck! I hope everything works for ya!

I'd need a better description to determine what it might be, sorry. It could be ick; but it could also be a fungal infection, which is exhibited by white cottony patches on the head and/or body. I think your best bet at this point is to look at this site:

http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.htm

This is a GREAT site, I've referred to it for years for help in caring for my Bettas. Your first step in treatment should ALWAYS to do a water change, usually I do about 70-75%. Then you figure out which course of treatment is best. If this is ick, then you treat with Aquarisol. If it is indeed a fungal infection, you need to treat with Fungus Eliminator. There are several other diseases, but none that resemble what you describe. HTH!!

most pet stores like petsmart and petco have drops for ick ridden fish. I would take the fish to the store and ask a few mgrs first tho it might not have ick I knwo it's your pet but do you really think that it would be wise to spend 50 bucks at a vet to diagnose a fish that costs four bucks?

I found a website with some pictures of diseases. You should really get a manual if you're new to this hobby. One big mistake I made with my Betta, I have well water thought it would be bad for him so I used distilled water and unfortunately my fish paid the price. There are many other websites on caring for bettas they're very hardy fish, and you won't believe the variety they come in, start searching.
